The Addiction Therapy Diploma Course has been created with the goal of enabling its students to pursue a rewarding career as an Addiction Therapist; working to help those with ‘traditional’ addictions or other behaviours and negative lifestyle choices, to overcome their afflictions with positive action.
This course guides you through 8 comprehensive modules:
The 1st module of the Addiction Therapy Diploma introduces students to the course by concentrating on the nature of addiction itself. This module helps students to understand basic human needs in relation to addiction and how therapists approach addiction, along with sharing scientific findings and psychological studies that explore how some people are affected, while others are not.
Module 2 focusses on one of the more common addictions: alcohol dependency. Recent findings in this area are presented to students; increasing understanding with up-to-date knowledge, alongside general ideas of the hows and whys of alcoholism. Of course, each case of alcohol addiction individual, and how this can manifest itself from person to person is described here.
Another commonly-known addiction, is drug addiction. Module 3 of the Addiction Therapy Diploma Course discusses the two cultural forms that this can take: legal and illegal, showing that the addictive nature of medications prescribed by doctors can be just as addictive as illegal drugs, despite the social implications of each being different. How each type of drug affects the user and why they are addictive, is also covered.
We can become addicted to anything. Module 4 discusses lifestyle addictions, the common destructive patterns of any addiction, and how to recognise these. Specific lifestyle addictions, such as smoking, food, particular ingredients, chocolate, coffee, and gambling are all covered individually in the module.
The Addiction Therapy Diploma Course’s 5th module gives an introductory overview of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (often abbreviated to CBT) and other progressive methods, such as Mindfulness, which have proven to be effective therapy tools in the battle against addiction.
The following modules concern beginning work as an Addiction Therapist, with module 6 laying out how to start seeing clients, following a predefined blueprint, to aid you through those first few sessions. The course explains this blueprint as the ‘six stages of counselling therapy’, with this module bringing students the first 3 stages, with in-depth, detailed information to follow and use in sessions with clients.
With the foundations laid for the six stages of counselling therapy, and the first 3 explained in the proceeding module, the 7th module of the Addiction Therapy Diploma Course covers the final 3. This complete the aforementioned blueprint, and discussing the action area of therapy and how you can aid your client to make positive changes.
The last of the course’s modules focusses on the business side of setting up as an Addiction Therapist, with various business-related topics discussed, such as the legalities, finances, marketing and business plans, and more; everything you need to know to build a highly successful small business.
